Business Award Winners Announced at 37th Annual Gala

On February 17, 2023, the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce held its 37th Annual Gala – Vegas Night!

More than 600 attendees gathered in the new LIVE venue at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. This awards ceremony was a celebration of the local community champions and businesses, as well as individuals who have made an impact in the Yuba-Sutter area. The event was a great success, and the attendees enjoyed an evening of fun and celebration. The Gala Awards are held annually and are an important part of celebrating the successes of the business community. Guests of the event also got to enjoy entertainment by Violin of Fire and comedy magician, Adam the Great! 


The Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce Business Awards is a program that honors the achievements and contributions of the local business community. Chamber member organizations that demonstrate the core values of business innovation, technological achievement, sustainability, commercial success and community support are recognized in the following categories:

Emerging Business of the Year Award - Awarded to a Yuba-Sutter Chamber member business who demonstrates sound business practices, customer service strategies, employee relations, business growth and performance. This business also shows strong community involvement.


Winner: Brick Coffee House Café



Brick Coffee House Café and its owner are a beacon of light in Marysville. Owner, Heather Thompson, has inspired a movement in Marysville, using her business as a catalyst for change. She has brought a new energy to the community and has been an incredible source of inspiration to many as businesses in Marysville work to build and attract more business to Marysville. The Brick has been recognized for being a leader in these efforts.

Community Champion of the Year: Awarded to a Yuba-Sutter Chamber member business or nonprofit that has an ongoing commitment to helping and supporting the community. The business/nonprofit awarded truly understands the impact of investing in the community and believes that a strong community is good for business.


Winner: SOYOUCAN



SoYouCan is a nonprofit organization that serves children and families in need during the holiday season. They provide hundreds of families with presents and food each year to help make the holidays a little brighter. Their work in the community and reach has grown significantly over the years and are being recognized for the significant impact they have on our community.

Business of the Year Award: Awarded to a Yuba-Sutter Chamber member who has been in business over 3 years, provides excellence in customer service, has experienced sales/marketing growth, provides innovative products or services, community volunteerism, and/or demonstrates economic support of the Yuba-Sutter community.


Winner: Jillian Justice-Childs – Farmers Insurance Agency


Jill Justice-Childs – Farmers Insurance Agency was recognized for their strong leadership role in many community efforts. Jill and her team are fierce advocates for their customers in business and for their community. They are champions for business and true community partners.

Transformation Award: This award is sponsored by the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation. This award is intended to recognize businesses or organizations that bring significant investment, and economic development to a region. This award also recognizes businesses that have gone above and beyond in their contributions and have transformed the region in meaningful ways.

 

Winner: Enterprise Rancheria and Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain.


Both organization’s commitment to Yuba County is to be commended. The partnership has enabled the region to benefit from jobs, major development, and significant economic impact, transforming Yuba County in significant and positive ways!

Blue Zones Project Champion: Blue Zones Project® is a community-led, well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to a city's environment, policy, and social networks. This award is intended to recognize businesses who contribute positively and meaningfully to the advancement of health and well being in Yuba-Sutter.

 

Winner: New Earth Market

 

New Earth has led the way in health and well-being for Yuba-Sutter and is a true champion for bringing the Blue Zones Project to life in Yuba-Sutter. They were recognized for being the very first Blue Zones Approved business in our community.

COMMUNITY AWARDS

Norma Crenshaw Ambassador of the Year Award: Awarded to an ambassador who inspires others to make a positive difference by aligning with the Chamber’s 3 pillars – Convener of Leaders and Influencers, Catalyst for Business Growth, and Champion for Strong Communities.



Winner = Rhonda Logar


Rhonda Logar has been a Chamber ambassador for nearly 5 years. She has been incredibly active in hosting Chamber events and is always among the first to jump in to help in many different Chamber efforts. She has emerged as a leader among the ambassadors and is being recognized for her hard work and dedication to the mission of the Chamber.

Dottie Neubauer Volunteer of the Year Award: Awarded to a volunteer or volunteers of the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce that selflessly contributes time and money for the betterment of others.


Winner = Virgil Atkinson


Virgil Atkinson is a true servant leader and epitomizes what it means to selflessly serve. His leadership in service has sparked others to serve. He is being recognized for all that he does for others and his focus on CommUNITY.

Film Yuba-Sutter is here (program initiated by the Chamber)! Marni Sanders, Chamber CEO, along with film commissioner, Sabrina Jurisich presented an update on this project to City of Yuba City, City Council and Yuba County who have both expressed their intention to continue to support Film Yuba-Sutter’s efforts. Film Yuba-Sutter is also receiving support from Visit Yuba-Sutter and in the past has been supported by Sutter County and Marysville (presentations to these jurisdictions are set for February).

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Small nonfarm businesses in 26 California counties and neighboring counties in Nevada are now eligible to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced Director Tanya N. Garfield of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by a freeze in the following primary counties that occurred April 11 – 12, 2022.
